Heavy-Vehicle Assessments
A heavy-vehicle assessment checks that trucks, trailers and over-dimensional vehicles can access, manoeuvre and travel a route safely — and identifies what's needed to make them work.
What it is
A heavy-vehicle assessment examines how large or over-dimensional vehicles interact with a site, access or route — from a warehouse loading dock to a mine-access road to an over-size, over-mass (OSOM) transport movement. It combines swept-path modelling, geometric checks and safety judgement to confirm that the vehicles a project depends on can operate, and to recommend the layout, pavement or route changes needed where they can't.
When you need it
You need one when a project relies on heavy or non-standard vehicles: industrial and logistics developments, freight and distribution facilities, resources and mining sites, and any proposal where large vehicle access, on-site manoeuvring or a haulage route is a live question for the authority or the operator. It's often needed alongside a TIA, an access design or a haulage management plan.

Industrial and logistics developers, resources and heavy-vehicle operators (particularly in Queensland), civil and infrastructure contractors, and the councils and road authorities assessing their proposals.

Access and site manoeuvring for the relevant heavy vehicles; geometry, widths, grades and clearances along the route; intersection and turn treatments; sight distance and safety for other road users; and, where relevant, pavement and structural considerations that our multidisciplinary network can bring in. We identify constraints and recommend workable treatments.
What you receive
An assessment report with supporting swept-path drawings, a clear statement of whether (and how) the vehicles can be accommodated, and specific recommendations — suitable for supporting a development application, an operational decision or a route approval submission.
Standards, guidelines & authorities
Assessments reference the relevant Australian Standards (including the AS 2890 Parking facilities series where site access is involved), the applicable Austroads design vehicle and geometry guidance, and the relevant heavy-vehicle regulatory framework (including National Heavy Vehicle Regulator requirements for restricted-access and OSOM movements, where applicable). We confirm the applicable references and design vehicles at scoping.

Yes. We assess both on-site access and manoeuvring and, where needed, the route a vehicle must travel — which often feeds into a haulage management plan. For a resources or major-transport movement, the route assessment is frequently the critical piece.
We can assess the geometry, access and safety of the route and identify constraints and treatments. Formal permits for restricted-access and OSOM movements are administered by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (or the relevant authority); we scope exactly what your movement needs at enquiry.
